My Story, the short and sweet version :)
From a fairly early age I thought I wanted to be an accountant and so I pursued this dream. Straight after completing my A levels, I joined Hayles Farrar & Partners, and I have a lot to thank them for. I worked whilst training and became ACCA qualified with all 1st time passes and it is here that I also met my future husband Allan (even against all advice from my boss!).
I have worked in both practice and industry throughout my career but after becoming a mum to two beautiful girls and trying to work and home school throughout COVID I took the difficult decision to leave my job of 13 years to join Allan at Somerbys IT part time to help develop our family business and take over the accounting function from a third party. This has given our family a lot more work life balance and is allowing me to be there for our young family whilst its needed.
Any woman that is pursuing a career as well as being a wife and a mother and a daughter and a chef and a taxi driver knows life can be challenging, so on International Women’s Day let’s celebrate our achievements and continue following our dreams for equality.
