Ho Ho Hold On… It’s Time for a 2022 Roundup!

Unnamed

Before everyone disappears into mountains of mince pies and mulled wine (if you already have, we applaud you!), we thought we’d do a roundup of what’s happened during 2022 here at Somerbys IT.

Let’s dive in…

We found our hybrid groove

We moved into our new offices at the end of 2020. We all know what happened shortly after, and it felt like we were playing office hokey cokey for a while – in, out, in, out. But as everything settled down, we talked to the team and found a hybrid groove to please everyone.

We’re all in the office Mondays and Tuesdays, and then everyone has the choice to work either at home or in the office for the rest of the week. This works really well as it prioritises wellbeing and work-life balance for the team, but keeps team spirit up, as we get two days a week all together. And Takeaway Tuesday has become a thing, where Al shouts us all our takeaway grub of choice for lunch!

Doing our bit for the environment

We’ve continued our shift towards a more environmentally friendly way of working. We’ve been paperless for a while now. And one of the reasons we chose The Dock as our new home was because of its efforts to lessen its carbon footprint with solar panels and air-source heat pumps.

This year, Allan and Lindsay have both swapped their rides for nippy electric numbers – a Vauxhall Corsa-e for Allan and the team, and an Audi Q4 for Lindsay…

Serving up SIT hybrid solutions

This year has naturally seen a huge increase in moving companies into a hybrid IT working structure. So much so that we launched a solution…. SITcloud.

SITcloud

Moving to the cloud isn’t a new thing, but it’s gathered even more pace this year. So we launched SITcloud, where we help clients migrate away from servers into the cloud.

This has been really popular with accountants, financial services, insurers and other professional service companies, due to the amount of confidential client data they handle. Our SITcloud solution and IT support services reassure them that everything is stored as safely and securely as possible.

The dreaded ‘C’ word… (no, not Christmas!)

Without bringing down the Christmas cheer, it’s our job as an IT services provider to remind you about the very real threat of cyber attacks.

Recent stats show that 38% of UK-based micro and small businesses suffered a cyber attack in a 12-month period, and the average financial loss was between £4200 and £19,400, depending on the size of the business. That’s going to hurt any business.

The good news is that we are being approached by more and more companies that are seeing the importance of having the correct level of cybersecurity. Partly because they don’t want to fall victim to a cyber attack, but also because insurance companies won’t cover the impact of an attack if cybersecurity isn’t in place.

The first two steps we recommend for any company are:

  • Looking at the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) website. This offers both advice and also highlights what the real risks are.

  • Becoming Cyber Essentials certified. We regularly help our clients gain this certification, which gives them a good base knowledge of how to stay cyber secure. It can also be used as proof of status for insurance companies.

And of course, our team can help you put the right systems in place to ensure you are as protected as possible against the rise in cyber crime. If you want to know more about how we can help, feel free to drop us a message or give us a call.

Mini-lecture over… to end this blog on a cheery note, we’re going to sign off with our highly festive team photo!
